Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will not be sold in January, according to a source quoted on

The French international was signed by Andre Villas-Boas in the summer, but has made just one Premier League appearance since joining from Lyon.

Villas-Boas has instead preferred 41-year-old Brad Friedel as the club's first-choice shot-stopper, and Lloris has been forced to make do with sporadic Capital One Cup and Europa League appearances.

And the £12m France star is reportedly ready to ask permission to leave Spurs in January if he fails to break into the first-team by the New Year, according to French reports.

A Tottenham source told "There is a lot of talk about his lack of action, inside and outside the club, but there is absolutely no chance he will be sold in January.

"He is the future of the club."

The 25-year-old has reportedly held meetings with Villas-Boas over his future, and is desperate to play in Saturday's north London derby against Arsenal, but the Portuguese coach is believed to be ready to stick with Friedel.

France coach Didier Deschamps has made it clear he's unhappy with his captain sitting on the substitutes bench, and Lloris is thought to have expected more first-team football, despite Friedel's impressive performances at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham travel to Arsenal this weekend looking to avenge last season's 5-2 defeat to the Gunners, and looking to stop the rot after two straight Premier League defeats.
