Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Southampton are hot on the trail of highly-rated Italian striker Domenico Berardi, reports Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old Sassuolo starlet has caught the eye of a number of top European clubs, following a series of impressive performances in Serie B this season.

Berardi has scored three goals in 10 appearances in 2012/13, and according to his agent, Giuseppe Galli, Juventus and Roma have already sent scouts to cast their eye over him this year, while Roberto Mancini has heard promising reports, as he weighs up an attempt to lure him to the Etihad Stadium in January.

"Juventus, Roma and Manchester City seeking Berardi? These are not rumours - this is real interest," Galli told

"During recent weeks these clubs have sent observers to see Sassuolo's matches on many occasions. Manchester City's scouts have often come from England."

However, Sassuolo's general director, Nereo Bonato, insists there has been no contact with any club enquiring about Berardi, but did reveal that Liverpool and Southampton have requested to attend matches.

"We have received accreditation requests to view our games in recent times from English clubs such as Liverpool and Southampton," he told "But it is too early to talk about the market so there has been no contact with any club."

Brendan Rodgers is known to be in the market for attacking reinforcements in January, as Luis Suarez is currently the only recognised first-team striker fit at Anfield, following the injury to summer signing Fabio Borini.

But, Liverpool will face serious competition for Berardi's signature, with Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson also credited with an interest in bringing the teenage talent to Old Trafford.

Despite the widespread attention, Bonato is hoping to keep the Manchester United target, with the Serie B club until at least the end of the season, though conceded he could be sold next summer.

"Berardi has important qualities and certainly he deserves attention, but I think the guy has yet to grow and that Sassuolo is the right place for him to do it," he added.

"We would like to keep the whole team until the end of the season, then in June we'll see."
