Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit says it is a 'mystery' as to why Fernando Torres has failed to fire since his transfer to Stamford Bridge, and admits they Blues may have to look elsewhere for a player to lead their line.
Torres is without a Premier League goal this season since August, and has only scored 19 goals in 85 appearances for Chelsea following his record-breaking move from Liverpool in January 2011.
The 28-year-old was given a more prominent role at Chelsea after the summer departure of Didier Drogba, but has failed the grasp the opportunity provided to him, with only four league goals this campaign.
Chelsea have frequently been linked with a more potent striker than Torres capable of firing them to glory this season, with Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao reported to be the most likely candidate to move to west London.
Gullit now senses that Torres' time with Chelsea may now be coming towards an end, and can't understand how the Spaniard has been unable to transfer his free-scoring form from his days as a Liverpool player.
"I said at the beginning of the season that Chelsea might need another striker but obviously they wanted to give Torres a chance. If he has taken it, I don't know," said Gullit, as reported by the Daily Mail.
"What he did in the past with Atletico, and Liverpool especially, was unbelievable.
"For some reason he can't do it at Chelsea, it's a mystery to me."
Torres scored 81 goals in 142 games for Liverpool, including 33 strikes in his first season at Anfield, before his £50 million move to Chelsea almost two years ago.
