Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling was forced to leap to deny claims on Twitter that he had demanded £50,000-per-week to stay on Merseyside this week.

The 17-year-old has broken through into Liverpool's first team this season and is said to be demanding a sizeable wage packet to match his new first team status.

The story comes as shadow sports minister Clive Efford warned Premier League clubs that the £5bn bonanza from their latest round of TV deals will merely fuel wage inflation for players in the coming years.
