Tottenham face a mounting injury list going into their crucial showdown against north London rivals Arsenal this weekend.

Spurs will almost certainly go into the game without Mousa Dembele, who is still struggling with a hip complaint. The Belgian international has been out of action since October, and while the club turned down the option of surgery in order to shorten his recovery he still faces another two weeks out of the game.

Tottenham have struggled somewhat without the £15 million summer signing from Fulham, and have only picked up maximum points in one of the four Premier League ties he has missed.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas is also sweating on the fitness of key trio Kyle Walker, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe, all of whom have been forced to pull out of England's friendly against Sweden tonight.

Both Lennon and Defoe were included in the original England squad for the game in Stockholm tonight, while Defoe was unable to replace Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, who was included in the original squad but also pulled out through injury.

All three Spurs players are expected to be fit for the game and will be assessed on Thursday, although their injuries are from ideal preparation ahead of a must-win game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Three defeats in their last four league games, including a disappointing 1-0 home defeat against Wigan has seen Spurs fall from 4th to 7th, with tough ties against West Ham and Liverpool to follow before December.

Arsenal have been on a similarly bad run of form recently and are currently without a win on their last three games in all competitions. On Saturday The Gunners threw away a two goal lead for the second time in a week to record a 3-3 draw against Fulham.

Long-term Tottenham absentees Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto will all miss the game.
