David Beckham has dismissed speculation linking him with a short-term move from the LA Galaxy to the A-League in Australia.

Speaking ahead of the MLS Western Conference final second-leg against the Seattle Sounders, Beckham answered questions on the subject directly, and insists he has no intention of leaving America for a move Down Under.

"No. Definitely not true. Bruce (LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena) told me that this morning - the first I'd heard about it. Like I said that's the first I'd heard of that, this morning," said Beckham, according to Sky Sports.

The speculation doesn’t appear to have affected Arena, who was happy to make a joke of the reports during the press conference at The Home Depot Center.

"We've booked his tickets already," added the former USA manager.

Despite the remarks of the former Manchester United star, Football Federation Australia (FFA) still hold out some hope that they might be able to lure Beckham to the division.

Robbie Fowler has previously plied his trade in the country, whilst Emile Heskey has made an impressive start with the Newcastle Jets.

However, it’s the addition of Alessandro Del Piero which sets the example for Beckham to potentially follow, and FFA CEO David Gallop won’t be giving up on the ex-England captain just yet.

"A similar thing happened with Del Piero in terms of the contact and, as we all know, that came to be. So let's just see how this one plays out. It's certainly an exciting proposition - no one would deny that," he told the Herald Sun.

"At the mere mention of Beckham's name, it did leak out and there's been a mushroom of interest. There would have to be a fair few hoops that would have to be jumped through and getting a deal with one of the clubs is the first step.

"There's definitely been some contact made and let's just see where it gets to."
