Tottenham’s are increasingly hopeful they can land Ajax star Christian Eriksen in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The talented Denmark international has marked himself out as one of the most promising youngsters in European football since breaking into the Ajax team in 2010, and starred for his country at Euro 2012.

That has prompted speculation he could leave the Eredivisie club to hook up with a major European outfit, with a host of Premier League clubs linked with a move for the 20-year-old.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in securing the services of Eriksen, and the Merseyside club reportedly view taking him to Anfield as a step towards replacing club captain Steven Gerrard.

Eriksen recently spoke out about Liverpool’s interest and admitted although he was flattered by talk of a move to Anfield in January, he would be staying put until the end of the season at least.

However speculation of a January move increased after it was revealed he had turned down the option of extending his contract with Ajax, and now Tottenham are believed to be in the race for his signature and are confident of beating Liverpool to the punch.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs believe they can lure the midfielder to White Hart Lane with the promise of regular first team football and are ready to make a move in January.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld and snapped up Jan Vertonghen from the Amsterdam club over the summer.

Along with being linked with a move to Liverpool, Manchester United and now Tottenham, Eriksen reportedly turned down an offer from Manchester City last year.
