Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, a reported transfer target for both Arsenal and Liverpool, has dropped one of his strongest hints that this season will be his last with Athletic Bilbao.

Llorente is out of contract with Athletic Bilbao at the end of the campaign, and has frequently been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, either in the January transfer window or next summer.

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring developments in Bilbao as Llorente edges towards the exit, and the Spain striker will have provided Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers with greater hope following his latest comments.

Llorente, 27, will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool at the turn of the new year, and says he hopes he can contribute as many goals as possible this season before leaving Athletic Bilbao.

"Hopefully I can get a few goals by the end. The more the merrier - and I'd like to leave the team as high in the table as I can," he told El Correo.

The acquisition of goalscoring reinforcements will surely be a January priority for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen whether their pursuit of new recruits will lead to a formal approach for Llorente.

Liverpool have just one fit senior striker currently available in Luis Suarez, and Rodgers will surely be keen to remove the goalscoring burden away from the Anfield star.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are better stocked than Liverpool in their forward department, but Wenger has still yet to sufficiently compensate for the summer departure of Robin van Persie.

The Gunners did move to bring Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, but Llorente could provide Arsenal with the extra firepower they crave.
