Felipe Melo is recognised as one of the game’s best defensive midfielders, but the Galatasaray loanee showed he could have a future in goal last weekend with a dramatic penalty save.

The 29-year-old is currently in Turkey for a second consecutive season, with Juventus letting the former 22-cap Brazilian international ply his trade at the Türk Telekom Arena once again in 2012/13.

His impact on the pitch was felt immediately as Gala won the Super Lig last term, but the former Flamengo starlet will now be best known for his exploits between the sticks in a dramatic 1-0 win over Elazingspor.

Yekta Kurtlus put the visitors ahead on 50 minutes, but drama ensued late-on as Uruguayan international Fernando Muslera received a straight red for a foul inside the box.

Melo proceeded to take the responsibility of going between the sticks, and guessed right following a little shuffle forward to deny Goksu Turkdogan an equaliser.

"I looked into Goksu's eyes. He looked like he wasn't sure [which way to go] to me. I didn't jump too early and waited until the last second to move. I really want to thank the fans. I didn't start the season well but this save is extra motivation for me,” Melo told Lig TV post-match.
