FA Cup holders Chelsea have been drawn against fellow Premier League outfit Southampton in the third round of this season's competition, while Manchester United have been handed a tricky trip to West Ham.
Last season's finalists Liverpool, who lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Wembley, have a far more straightforward proposition than many of their rivals with an outing against either Lincoln City or Mansfield Town.
Defeated semi-finalists from last term Tottenham face Coventry at White Hart Lane, while north London rivals Arsenal have been drawn away at Swansea, just one day after losing to the Swans at the Emirates Stadium.
It will be an extremely tough encounter for the Gunners, who will have identified the FA Cup as a competition they are capable of winning in the quest to end seven years without a trophy.
Premier League champions Manchester City - FA Cup winners in 2011 - face Watford, while there is also an all top-flight clash between Queens Park Rangers and West Brom.
Elsewhere, MK Dons are handed a tie with Sheffield Wednesday having overcome AFC Wimbledon in an historic meeting on Sunday afternoon, while Alfreton Town will play Hull City if they can get the better of Leyton Orient.
This season's FA Cup third round is scheduled to take place over the weekend of January 5 and 6 2013.
