Manchester United will reportedly reinforce their already plentiful forward department with the capture of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window.

Lewandowski has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United for some time and, it would appear, Sir Alex Ferguson will beat his rivals to the signature of the Poland international.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to agree a fee of around £12 million for Lewandowski, who is reported to have told friends he will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Dortmund are set to be forced into the sale of Lewandowski in order to avoid losing him to Manchester United for nothing at the end of next season when his contract expires.

Lewandowski is joint top of the Bundesliga scoring charts this term with nine goals, while he scored 22 goals last season as BVB claimed the league title.

Should Lewandowski complete his transfer to Old Trafford, Manchester United would be able to boast arguably the most fearsome strikeforce in the world with the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez already among their number.

The 24-year-old is also set to become the second Borussia Dortmund player to leave for Manchester United in successive summers, following Shinji Kagawa's move earlier this year.
