Arsenal & Manchester United sent scouts to watch £20m Dutch midfielder

Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly both had representatives in attendance for the weekend Eredivisie encounter between Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, with Kevin Strootman the subject of their attention.

Strootman has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United for some time, but Arsenal now appear to have entered the race to sign the 22-year-old Dutch midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley was at the Amsterdam Arena to watch Strootman, while Manchester United also sent a senior talent spotter.

Should Arsenal or Manchester United decide to formalise their interest in Strootman, then PSV Eindhoven will reportedly demand £20 million for the Netherlands international.

Midfield reinforcements are seemingly on the respective minds of both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson as the January transfer window approaches, with both managers linked with an array of midfielders.

Chelsea star Frank Lampard emerged as a shock target for Arsenal on Sunday, while Manchester United are reported to be considering a renewed approach for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder.
