Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to sell Manchester United winger Nani in January to fund a move for out-of-favour Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder, according to the Daily Express.

The Portuguese winger is reportedly set to be ushered out of the Old Trafford exit door when the transfer window reopens in January.

The report claims Ferguson has lost patience with the former-Sporting winger, and is believed to be exploring possible alternatives.

Nani has made 15 appearances this season, but has failed to hit the heights of previous campaigns - the winger has just one Premier League goal this term.

And the 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Manchester United - several Serie 'A' clubs have been credited with an interest, but most recently the report claims Inter president Mario Moratti said he would consider an exchange before moving ahead with any deal.

United have long been interested in Sneijder, who moved to Inter Milan from Real Madrid in 2009.

The Dutchman helped the Serie 'A' giants to a league title and Champions League title a year later, but has struggled to match those heights since then.

And, according to reports, Sneijder has been locked in a long-term contract struggle with Inter - a struggle which could force him out of the club. The club want the Holland international to take a pay cut - he reportedly earns close to £200,000-a-week in Italy - but Sneijder is thought to be unwilling to accept the terms.

Inter have since banished Sneijder to the reserves, and told the playmaker that he will not play for the first-team until he signs a new deal.
