Manchester United are set to be tempted by a £5million bid from Paris St-Germain for Patrice Evra in January, according to The Independent.

The 31-year-old defender could see his £90,000-a-week salary increased by moving to Parc des Princes, with the Ligue 1 giants now funded by the Qatar Investment Authority.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson would have to buy a straight replacement for the Frenchman, who still has two years to run on the Old Trafford contract he renewed in 2010, with neither Fabio Da Silva or Alexander Buttner looking capable of making the left-back spot their own.

Evra - a PSG supporter - is understood to be keen on the idea of concluding his career at his hometown side, and could join Carlo Ancelotti in the French capital in the New Year.

The France international currently has the prestige of the Manchester United captaincy, though that is only temporary, with Nemanja Vidic poised to make his return from injury.

By selling to PSG, Ferguson could recoup virtually the entire outlay on the defender, who is no longer reaching the heights of previous seasons.
