The Manchester City fan that ran onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium in a bid to confront Rio Ferdinand has apologised to the Manchester United defender.

Matthew Stott was restrained by City goalkeeper Joe Hart before he could get to Ferdinand and was subsequently arrested and charged with pitch encroachment.

It was not the only incident to mar the match that was won 3-2 by United from a last minute deflected Robin van Persie free-kick, as Ferdinand had been struck by an object that appeared to be thrown from the crowd.

United players were celebrating Van Persie’s goal when the former England captain was struck with what he claimed to be a coin, which caused cut above his eye.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said the Blues are comfortable with being labelled favourites to lift the FIFA Club World Cup this month.

The Stamford Bridge number one claimed he was delighted to be in Japan for the tournament and said the whole squad was desperate to come away as winners.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes he is nearing full fitness and hopes his influence on games will grow further in the next few matches.

The England international was in impressive form against West Brom on Saturday and manager Arsene Wenger expressed surprise at the speed with which the 20-year-old was returning to 100 per cent.

Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas fears his side will never learn how to cut out the mistakes that have lead to conceding late goals.

Two injury time strikes by Everton on Sunday turned victory into defeat for Spurs and Gallas insisted they would never catch the top clubs in the league if the sloppiness continued.
