Stelios Giannakopoulos insists Otto Rehhagel should remain in charge of Greece despite their European Championship defence ending at the earliest possible stage.

A 1-0 defeat to Russia denied the holders a route out of Group D, with goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis and defender Paraskevas Antzas now expected to retire - but Stelios feels the charisma of Rehhagel is vital for Greece to bounce back.

The former Bolton midfielder, a free agent this summer, said: "He renewed his contract with the federation so he has nowhere to go, everyone loves him, we love him, the people love him and now he has renewed his contract there is no reason to think anything."
