Curtis Davies believes it is crucial Aston Villa keep players of the quality of Liverpool target Gareth Barry in order to help the club "move forward".

Skipper Barry has intimated to Villa manager Martin O´Neill that he wants to make the move to Anfield and taste Champions League football.

Davies said: "He is the captain, he leads by example and the way he plays on the pitch. We can´t afford to lose the likes of those players but you never know what happens in football."
