Radamel Falcao and Lionel Messi are currently performing at a higher level than “predictable” Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Diego Godin.
The Uruguayan defender claimed his team-mate at Atletico Madrid, Falcao, and Barcelona superstar Messi were the two best players in the world currently, but did concede the Real Madrid star was close behind.
Godin then revealed his reasoning behind the statement, claiming Ronaldo’s attributes were great, but that they was easier to remedy as you had more idea of what was coming.
“When compared to Lionel Messi and Falcao, Cristiano is the slightly more predictable player of the three,” he is quoted as saying by Europa Press.
“His game is more based on strength and power. He has a great shot and is good in the air but right now I think Messi and Falcao are one step ahead.”
The question of superiority between Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao is regularly on the agenda due to the forthcoming 2012 FIFA Ballon d’Or presentation.
Messi is favourite to win the award for a record fourth time in a row, but many feel that Ronaldo deserves to take the award off of him this year.
Godin’s comments may also have something to do with the fact that the Madrid derby is this Saturday and a few mind games leading up to it are not a great surprise, especially with Atleti currently leading Real in the league.
However, it is reasonable to question the wisdom of Godin’s comments, as giving the Portuguese attacker further motivation to perform is hardly what he needs.
