Lionel Messi has said he understands why Chelsea sacked Roberto Di Matteo, and backed his former boss Pep Guardiola to become a success in the Premier League.
Guardiola has been linked with a Premier League job ever since he left Barcelona at the end of last season, and Messi thinks it's understandable for clubs to be so keen to employ the ex-Spain international.
The three-time Ballon d'Or winner has no doubt Guardiola has the ability to take his incredible track record and make a success of it wherever he goes, whether its the Premier League, Serie 'A' or elsewhere.
In the Daily Mail, Messi said: "Guardiola will be a success wherever he goes. He is widely recognised as one of the best coaches in the world.
"For me he is the best coach in the world and wherever he goes he will be a success, I have no doubt about that. He'll go where he wants to go and good luck to him."
And Messi said he wasn't surprised to see Roberto Di Matteo sacked by Chelsea, despite winning the Champions League and FA Cup last season.
"It's difficult to judge the situation when you are not inside the club but Chelsea are a great club and with big clubs if you lose two games consecutively then these things can happen, the pressure starts to mount," Messi said.
Chelsea dumped Barcelona out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage last season, on their way to their maiden triumph in Europe's premier club competition.
Messi is set to go toe-to-toe with Cristiano Ronaldo in January, when each look to scoop the Ballon d'Or award. The Barcelona superstar is on the brink of a historic fourth trophy, while Ronaldo is looking for his second, after winning the award back in 2008 when with Manchester United.
The Argentinian forward has been breaking records left, right and centre this season, and he stands on the cusp of breaking another famous milestone in the next few weeks.
Messi is chasing Germany striker Gerhard Muller's record of 85 goals in one calendar year, and the Barca star has 80 with six games remaining in 2012.
