Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba.
The Sunday People claims Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to get Stewart Downing out of the club in an effort to free-up funds for strikers in January.
Ba is one of the players on the Anfield transfer radar, according to the paper, along with Giuseppe Rossi, Wilfried Bony and Daniel Sturridge.
The Senegalese striker has been linked with a move to Liverpool on a number of occasions in the past, with The Daily Mail claiming last month that Rodgers was monitoring the player after being warned against a bid for South Korean international Son Heung-min.
A £7 million minimum fee release clause will once again be reactivated in the New Year, according to the Mail report last month, meaning Ba is certainly an affordable target for the Reds owners – should they wish to make a move.
Liverpool are short of senior options up-front, with Luis Suarez shouldering the burden alone this season on Merseyside following Andy Carroll’s exit on loan.
Ba – who has eight goals for the Toon this season, joint-second behind Suarez in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot – would certainly add an extra attacking dimension to Liverpool if they could lure him to the club, giving the Reds the most productive strike-force in the division at this stage.
