Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rarely very far from the headlines, and the super Swede once again finds himself embroiled in controversy after he was accused of stamping on the head of Lyon defender Dejan Lovren in last night's 1-0 Ligue 1 victory at the Parc des Princes.

Moments after setting up team-mate Blaise Matuidi to score the only goal of the game - which helped PSG overtake Sunday's opponents at the top of the table - Ibrahimovic clashed with Lovren as the Croatian fell to the ground under a challenge from the 31-year-old.

With the forward airborne, and hanging precariously over the Lyon star, Ibrahimovic attempted an awkward hop over the player below him, resulting in a reckless scrape of his boot down the side of Lovren's face, causing an open cut.

"Everyone told me that he did it on purpose," blasted the defender after the match. "In any case I have a very bad headache. I think it is serious but it is for the commission to do its work."

French referee Antony Gautier perceived the incident as accidental, and didn't even issue a yellow card to Ibrahimovic for his actions, but there have already been calls for a retrospective punishment to be handed out to the enigmatic striker.

Lovren recovered and played the full 90 minutes, however, that is of little relevance to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas: "He did [it] voluntarily, I'm sure. I do not like to see this kind of act."

Relations between Ibrahimovic and PSG have shown signs of deterioration in recent weeks, and this latest incident is unlikely to improve matters.

Rumours were rife of a breakdown in the build up to the weekend match, after Ibrahimovic missed a collective training session with Carlo Ancelotti at Camp des Loges, which was also attended by club president Nasser Al-Khelafi, who wanted to observe the team's preparations ahead of the top-of-the-table clash.

However, a club spokesman told French paper L'Equipe that a fall-out had been completely exaggerated, adding that Ibrahimovic was merely following an adapted, personal regime and doing his own work in the gym.
