West Brom manager Tony Mowbray hailed his players for living up to pre-season expectations of being "the best team in the Coca Cola Championship" as they effectively clinched a place back in the Barclays Premier League.

The Baggies made virtually sure of top-flight football by drawing 1-1 at home to Southampton courtesy of a late goal from £3million signing Chris Brunt.

Mowbray said: "I am delighted for the players and the staff. It has been a long, hard season after the play-off final defeat and the changes in the squad during the summer."
