Nigel Pearson´s first match as Southampton boss got off to a miserable start as Plymouth cruised to a 2-0 Coca-Cola Championship win at half-empty St Mary´s.

Two goals in two minutes did the damage, Peter Halmosi opening the scoring in the 31st minute when he clipped the ball past Kelvin Davis.

James Paterson then cracked in his first Plymouth goal from long range to put the visitors in total control in front of a crowd estimated to be the lowest ever at this stadium.
