Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has not given up on Alan Shearer returning to the club in some capacity.

United assistant manager Nigel Pearson quit his post at the weekend and although former England striker Shearer turned down the chance to move to St James´ Park in that capacity last month, Keegan has reiterated the door remains open for a place in the new set-up.

Keegan told the Daily Mail: "I´ve definitely not given up on it. What we have agreed is that he is going to come in training with us to start off with and then we are going to revisit it later when the commitments that he´s made to other people are no longer in place."
