Portsmouth hung on to clinch a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup in a tougher-than-expected 2-1 tussle with Plymouth at Fratton Park.

Debutant Chris Clark thumped a fourth-minute shot which went in off Hermann Hreidarsson and goalkeeper David James had to make a string of saves before Lassana Diarra´s first Pompey goal, lashed in from 25 yards, brought an equaliser after 33 minutes.

Ten minutes later Niko Kranjcar pounced on a defensive error to put Portsmouth in front before the visitors´ Peter Halmosi shot agonisingly wide at the end.
