Derby chairman Adam Pearson is adamant that the Rams´ perilous position at the foot of the Barclays Premier League table will not prevent boss Paul Jewell from bringing in "four or five players" in the January transfer window.

Sunday´s 2-1 defeat to Blackburn at Pride Park leaves Derby eight points adrift at the bottom and 10 points away from safety, but with an immediate return to the Coca-Cola Championship looming large, Pearson insists Jewell will be handed funds to ensure the club are suitably equipped to make a push for survival in the second half of the campaign.

"We´re not going to concede anything yet, but we´ve got to be realistic - it looks a very difficult challenge," he told Sky Sports News. "The recruitment we do in January will be based on a bit of pragmatism. There´s no doubt we need to bring some new players to freshen it up ready to give it a real go towards the end of the season."
