Ten-man Wigan recovered from conceding the fastest goal in the Premier League this season to end their eight-match losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

New manager Steve Bruce could hardly have had a worse start as Titus Bramble gifted Geovanni a 28-second opener for Manchester City.

But Wigan recovered admirably, levelled before the break through Paul Scharner and looked the most likely winners until captain Mario Melchiot was sent off near the end for a two-footed lunge on Stephen Ireland.
