Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo must have "a decent chance" of landing a major individual award at some point over the next fortnight.

It is anticipated the Portuguese winger will be edged out of the prestigious Ballon D´Or for European player of the year by AC Milan´s Kaka on Sunday but Ronaldo is also on a three-man short list, along with Kaka and Lionel Messi, for the FIFA World Player of the Year prize, which will be decided at a gala dinner in Zurich on December 17.

"He must have a chance and it would be fantastic for the boy if he did win it," said Ferguson. "It would justify the amount of work he puts in to be the best player because he really does work hard."
