Sir Alex Ferguson was sent to the stands as Nicolas Anelka scored the only goal to condemn Manchester United to their first defeat since August.

Ferguson launched a finger-jabbing tirade at referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time but was then condemned to watch the remainder of his side´s first defeat at Bolton since December 1978 from the directors´ box.

The result took Bolton out of the relegation zone and it was a success they just about deserved, even if Carlos Tevez missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise late on.
