Jerome withdraws from under-21 squad

Birmingham striker Cameron Jerome has pulled out of the England Under-21 squad for the Euro 2009 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Portugal.

Jerome is set to undergo surgery on a hernia, while Preston defender Billy Jones (hamstring) and Michael Kightly from Wolves (foot) have not joined up with the squad either.

Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce has called up Leicester duo Joe Mattock, 17, and Richard Stearman, 20.
