Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos has highlighted the importance of defeating Wigan to take the first steps towards European qualification - but admits his side are still a world away from his expectations.

Spurs players have noticed the difference since the Spaniard took charge less than a fortnight ago, although Ramos still sees a lack of belief at White Hart Lane.

The aim at the start of the campaign was to compete for a top-four place in the Barclays Premier League, now it is to pull away from the teams in the relegation zone, and Ramos said: "Our next game is going to be crucial in terms of joining the teams in the middle of the table and from there in the second half of the season we will try to get in the European places."
