Tim Cahill guided Everton into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with an extra-time winner in the 1-0 victory over Luton at Kenilworth Road.

The midfielder was brought on as a substitute midway through the second half and responded with a 101st-minute strike to finally see off the League One side.

David Bell twice went close for Luton, the lowest-placed team left in the competition, while Joleon Lescott cleared a late Matthew Spring shot off the line.
