Portsmouth midfielder Richard Hughes has been handed a three-match ban for a deliberate headbutt.

Scotland international Hughes was involved when Manchester United´s Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off at Fratton Park in August and served a three-match suspension after appearing to butt him. And Hughes was shown a straight red card by referee Andrew Turner after 25 minutes of Portsmouth reserves´ 1-0 win over Birmingham for a clash with Blues defender David Howland on Wednesday.

A Football Association spokesman said: "The player will be suspended for three matches from October 24 for a deliberate head-butt."
