Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has applauded Benni McCarthy for his reaction to being dropped after welcoming the striker back into the fold for the UEFA Cup first round second leg clash against Larissa.

The misfiring South African did not travel with the squad for Saturday´s Barclays Premier League victory at Sunderland, with manager Mark Hughes preferring him to try to rediscover his form out of the first-team spotlight.

"Benni is a top-quality striker with top European experience," Hughes said. "He has worked very hard in the past few days and shown a great attitude to the extra things we are asking of him. He will be involved against Larissa."
