Heaton warms to bench role

Tom Heaton is facing another frustrating night at Old Trafford on Wednesday - but the young Manchester United goalkeeper would not have it any other way.

The 21-year-old is still to make his senior debut for the Red Devils and that elusive first appearance is unlikely to come in the Carling Cup third round clash with Coventry at Old Trafford but without an untimely - and unwanted - injury to Tomasz Kuszczak, who will replace regular first-choice Edwin van der Sar, it promises to be a long night for the Chester-born youngster.

"But my ambition is to play at a top club and Manchester United is the biggest club in the world," said Heaton. "Okay, I could be playing somewhere else but would I be learning what I am learning now? Would I be training with the best players in the world? Probably not."
