Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck insists new manager Avram Grant can build on the "winning spirit" engendered by Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese left after more than three years with the club in the early hours of Thursday morning, with the Blues later admitting his relationship with the board had broken down.

Former Israel national coach Grant was installed quickly as his replacement, and Buck insists he is the right man for the job despite doubts over his credentials, saying: "It has been a very eventful few days but it was very important for the club to announce Avram Grant and (assistant manager) Steve Clarke as soon as possible."
