Lee Bowyer came to West Ham´s rescue at Upton Park after Paul Scharner´s acrobatic overhead kick 12 minutes from time looked set to give Wigan their third win in a row.

Austria star Scharner took off to hook the ball over his shoulder after Emile Heskey´s challenge for a long-throw into the area, leaving goalkeeper Robert Green helpless.

But so was Wigan´s Chris Kirkland almost immediately afterwards when Luis Boa Morte fed fellow substitute Bowyer to equalise with a neat finish to make it 1-1.
