South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena insists Scotland new boy Jay McEveley could have been the answer to England boss Steve McClaren´s left-sided problem.

The 22-year-old Derby player was born in Liverpool and played for England Under-21s, but after deciding his chances of a step-up were slim, he switched allegiances to Scotland - qualifying through his Dumfries-born grandfather.

Mokoena, who played with McEveley at Blackburn, said: "Jay has a fantastic left foot and he is doing well at Derby, playing every week against top-class players. There are lots of quality left-backs in England but they have problems in that position because of injuries. Jay never seems to have injuries. He could have been a big asset for Steve."
