Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks Lionel Messi is a “Playstation player” and wants another of his former Barcelona teammates, Andres Iniesta, to win the 2012 FIFA Ballon d’Or.

The PSG star was speaking to television station beIN Sport when he predicted Messi would win the award, though insisted the Argentinean’s teammates needed more recognition and that he does not do it all alone.

Ibrahimovic is captain of the Sweden national team, so was able to cast a vote and he revealed he voted for Iniesta due to his successful year internationally, as well as with Barcelona.

“I voted for Iniesta, because he won the European Championship in Poland and the Ukraine and was player of the tournament there,” he said.

“He's also had an amazing year for Barcelona. I hope it goes to him.”

The former AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus striker believes people forget too readily that Messi has an incredible supporting cast at Camp Nou.

However, the 31-year-old did concede Messi could not be matched as an individual player and referred to him as a “Playstation player”, but it is unlikely he means it in the same way as Gary Neville did when speaking of Chelsea defender David Luiz.

“You have to remember that Messi doesn't score the goals all on his own, even if he is the best individual player in the world,” he added.

“Messi is a Playstation player and anyone who can't see that doesn't know anything about football.”

Ibrahimovic may have stated his preference for the award but he was not so naïve as to think it would be going anywhere other than in the hands of Messi for the fourth year in a row.

“In my opinion he's the big favourite to get his fourth Ballon d'Or, though I'd like Iniesta to win it,” he admitted.

The final three on the shortlist are Messi, Iniesta and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo; the award will take place in Zurich on January 7 of next year.
