Liverpool have reportedly removed themselves from the race to sign Theo Walcott in the January transfer window, but will revive their interest in the Arsenal winger at the end of the season.

Walcott is out of contract in the summer and, as of yet, has not given a clear indication that he intends to sign an new deal with the Gunners to extend his stay in north London.

Liverpool have been linked with a January bid to test Arsenal's resolve to keep Walcott but, according to the Liverpool Echo, Brendan Rodgers will not make an approach next month.

The Liverpool manager will instead withhold his interest in Walcott until the summer, in the hope of signing the England international on a fee rather than for the £8 million the Reds were considering bidding next month.

Arsenal maintain they want to keep Walcott, but it is unclear if the Gunners are getting any closer to convincing the 23-year-old to stay with the club.

The Gunners have managed to tie Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson down to long-term deals, and Arsene Wenger will surely hope that Walcott will be next to follow.
