Manchester United held by Swansea

Manchester United missed out on the chance to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Following title rivals Manchester City's late win over Reading on Saturday, Manchester United passed up on the opportunity to keep Roberto Mancini's side at bay as Michu cancelled out Patrice Evra's first half opener.

Without playing spectacularly well the Red Devils took the lead on the 15 minute mark as Patrice Evra got on the end of Robin van Persie's cross.

However Michael Laudrup's Swansea side have shown they have plenty of reason to be hopeful of a successful season already with victories over Arsenal and Newcastle in the league and over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup - and they soon struck back to level things up against United.

Michu, who has proved a revelation since his summer switch to the Liberty Stadium, bagged his 13th goal of the season as he tucked the ball home after David de Gea spilled Jonathan de Guzman's shot.

Manchester United's frustrations were visible for all to see as a series of chances came out and went without Michel Vorm having to pick the ball out of his net, while Robin van Persie clashed with Ashley Williams. All the while Swansea attempted to impose their passing game on the visitors with mixed results.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side go into Christmas with a four point advantage over Manchester City but will be ruing the fact they passed up the chance to keep their rivals at arms length.

Were it not for Gareth Barry's late strike yesterday and the fact United were wasteful in front of goal, the Red Devils could have conceivably been nine points clear going into the busy festive period. The fact that it is instead only four hints at the fact this could be another title race of twists and turns akin to last year.
