As the New Year inches ever closer, so the number of end-of-year montage recaps seem to steadily mount, but while FIFA have released their own definitive Goal of the Year list – the Puskas Award nominees – the absence of certain goals has provoked some strident debate.

Which, inevitably, has lead to a plethora of alternative shortlists, and here we have one such example. A recent blog post on brought to our attention this top 10 list of best goals from across the year, and there are some belters.

It always seemed strange that Papiss Cisse missed out on the FIFA Puskas award, his swerving, dipping volley against Chelsea was a truly magnificent strike, and deserved recognition. Likewise Peter Crouch’s effort against Manchester City.

Well, these wonder-goals get due credit in this round-up of the year’s most memorable strikes.

There’s a few that overlap with the Puskas Award – namely Miroslav Stoch’s rasping volley and Radamel Falcao’s stunning scissor kick, but by and large, they’re fresh nominations.

Neymar is a fixture in these sort of things, and he’s scored so many solo wonder-strikes that it’s only right that he features here, and of course, his effort is superb.

So, cast your eye over this top 10, which is your favourite goal of the year? Join the debate by leaving your nomination in the comment box below...
