The Bundesliga is one of the most exciting leagues in the world, with a number of world class players now plying their trade in Germany's top-flight.
As 2012 draws to a close, GiveMeFootball takes a look at some of the stand-out performers from the German top tier, as we select our best Bundesliga XI from the year thats been.
GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Borussia Monchengladbach)
This young German keeper has kept an impressive 13 clean sheets this calendar year, helping his team qualify for the Europa League. The 20-year-old shot-stopper has made 17 league appearances this season, and with age on his side, the sky is the limit for ter Stegen as he continues to impress.
RB: Lukasz Piszczek (Borussia Dortmund)
A regular starter for Dortmund and the Polish national team, Piszczek has proved himself to be one of the most consistent wing-backs in world football. He has incredible pace, strong in the tackle and is an all-round solid defender.
For Dortmund, the 27-year-old has formed a formidable partnership down the right-hand side with Polish teammate Jakub Blaszczykowski, with the duo proving to be as effective going forward as they are defensively.
Piszczek has scored three goals and made nine assists this calendar year.
CB: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
The calm and composed German international has received many plaudits for his dominant performances in the heart of Dortmund's defence, with some quarters suggesting Hummels would be the perfect long-term successor to Nemanja Vidic at Manchester United.
Hummels has a fantastic ability to read the game, whilst he is a powerhouse in the air. For a defender, the 24-year-old has a decent goalscoring record too, having notched four times for club and country in 2012.
CB: Heiko Westermann (Hamburg SV)
The German international is now a veteran in the Bundesliga, but his performances in 2012 were reminiscent of those that earned him a spot in Germany's first-team for the 2006 World Cup.
The 29-year-old defender has put in some excellent defensive displays this season, scoring one solitary goal in 2012 as Hamburg slipped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Frankfurt.
LB: Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich)
Philipp Lahm is the captain of both Germany and Bayern Munich, and is equally as competent at both right-back and left-back.
The 29-year-old's willingness to adapt to any defensive position makes him extremely versatile, and arguably the best full-back in the business.
Whilst Lahm is very strong going forward, first and foremost he is a defender who doesn't shy away from his defensive duties. Combative, quick and fantastic in the tackle, Lahm has cemented his position as one of the best defenders in the world.
CDM: Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen)
Bender can play in a number of positions in both midfield and defence, with his versatility making him a real asset to Bayer Leverkusen.
His ability to break up counter-attacks and passing moves is excellent, with the 23-year-old protecting the defence making the German giants difficult to break down.
Bender occasionally strays further forward too, popping up with three goals and making four assists in 2012.
RW: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)
Franck Ribery's proven in years gone by that he is equally as capable down either flank, confirming that he is one of the best wingers on the planet.
With pace to burn and an abundance of flair in his armoury - plus a fantastic ability to pick a pass - Ribery is a very effective winger.
The French international has scored 10 goals in all competitions in 2012, proving that he's just as effective in terms of scoring goals as he is creating them for his teammates.
LW: Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach)
Marco Reus has been absolutely outstanding this calendar year, impressing officials at Borussia Dortmund so much that the German giants made a move to bring the 23-year-old attacker to the Westfalenstadion.
Reus signed a pre-contract with Dortmund ahead of a summer switch, leaving former club Borussia Monchengladbach. Since joining 'Die Borussen', the German international has continued to impress in the Bundesliga.
Such form earned Reus a call-up to the national squad for Euro 2012, and the playmaker has gone on to become a regular starter in the Germany squad.
Reus has consistently found the net throughout 2012, and has scored six goals in 17 appearances so far this season, making him one of the brightest prospects in world football.
CAM: Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)
After winning the Golden Boot in the 2010 World Cup, much was expected of Thomas Muller - and he hasn't disappointed.
The 23-year-old attacker has become a vital member of Bayern Munich's side, as well as establishing himself in the German national team.
Since breaking through in to the first-team fold, Muller has matured very quickly. Having scored 22 goals in all competitions, this calendar year has been extremely successful for one of Germany's top talents.
With Muller improving all the time, who knows how far this young prodigy can go in the game?
CF: Robert Lewandowski (Borussia Dortmund)
Robert Lewandowski rose to prominence in 2011, thanks largely to his wonderful performances for club and country.
Such impressive form has seen the Polish international linked to a whole host of top clubs, including Manchester United.
The 24-year-old frontman has scored an impressive 28 goals this calendar year for club and country, showing why he's one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world.
ST: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04)
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been scoring goals for fun since arriving in the Bundesliga.
The Dutch giant is a fox-in-the-box and his finishing is lethal. If the 29-year-old striker gets a sniff of a chance in the 18-yard area, you could put your life on Huntelaar finding the back of the net.
The stats back those claims up, too. 19 league goals and 7 assists in the Bundesliga - along with a brace of hat-tricks in the Europa League - show just how clinical the formidable striker is.
