Comolli: Kenny Dalglish needed more time

Damien Comolli, former director of football at Liverpool, believes he and Kenny Dalglish were not given enough time to turn things around at Anfield before they were dismissed.

In an interview with The Times, the Frenchman revealed the happenings leading to his sacking and believes the reasons behind the decision to do so were made too quickly, as was the decision to remove Kenny Dalglish.

Dalglish was sacked in the summer after only managing to finish eighth in the Premier League, though he did lead the Reds to a league Cup victory at Wembley and an FA Cup final appearance.

Then Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers was brought in to replace the Anfield legend at the helm and Comolli feels Dalglish was not given sufficient time to develop the team and get the best out of their new signings.

“I went to Florida in March to stay at John Henry’s house for three days,” he said in the interview.

“They weren’t happy about the fact that we were not scoring enough goals. They thought we were not playing enough positive football, so we had a discussion about that.

“Tom Werner said, ‘Do you think Kenny is the right person?’ I said, ‘Definitely.’ John Henry agreed with me.

“Kenny deserved longer and I told that to the owners many times. I never felt it [sacking him] was the right thing.”

Comolli was first to go and owners FSG dismissed him in April, though he recently won a case against Liverpool for wrongful dismissal – misgivings over transfer deals were given as the reasoning behind his exit at the time.

He also revealed he is waiting for another position to arise in the Premier League and wants to get back into English football.

However, he did express frustration and anger at how things turned out at Anfield, claiming he had unfinished business.
