Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has told the six-time Olympic champion Usian Bolt he should come to Old Trafford to have a trial with the 19-time title winners.

Jamaican superstar Bolt, a Manchester United fan, has previously talked up his ability on the football pitch and has urged Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him.

Bolt visited Old Trafford shortly after his breathtaking performances at the Olympic Games in London, where he won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, and he could yet return to Manchester United.

Welbeck has invited the fastest man alive to come to Manchester United again, although this time has told Bolt that he should forget his running spikes and bring his football boots with him instead.

"He should come over and trial," Welbeck said in a webchat with supporters on Manchester United's official website. "He should come and train and show us what he's got. He's the fastest man in the world.

"He's one of a kind and I admire the way he prepares for his races. He's a real character."

Bolt has also suggested that he would consider quitting athletics for a career in cricket, and has previously been linked with Shane Warne's Melbourne Stars T20 outfit.
