Manchester United striker Robin van Persie’s winning goal against Manchester City was worth more than just three points in a classic Premier League derby.

For one lucky punter it was worth a whopping £60000 as the Old Trafford club’s win helped pull off an unlikely £2, 13-team accumulator last weekend that paid out the massive jackpot.

Van Persie’s deflected free-kick during injury time made the score 3-2 to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and handed Roberto Mancini his first league home defeat in 37 games.

It was an unfortunate end for the Etihad Stadium side as they had dragged themselves level after being 2-0 down at half time and were pushing for the win that would take them level at the top of the Premier League.

United were thankful for Samir Nasri’s miserable attempts to try and block the shot, as all he did was help it in to the net, but their joy was likely matched by the man in Birmingham who decided to go into Ladbrokes and put on the unlikely bet.
