Mark Hughes believes Blackburn´s increased profile enabled them to sign striker Roque Santa Cruz in a transfer thought to be worth £3.5million from Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old Paraguay international, who signed four-year contract, joins a club who can look forward to UEFA Cup football after defeating FK Vetra 4-0 on the day - and 6-0 on aggregate - in the third and final round of the Intertoto Cup.

The Blackburn boss said: "We should not underestimate the football grapevine. People are beginning to understand what we are trying to do here. Word gets around and that gives you a foot in the door."
