Manchester United chief executive David Gill is confident the Carlos Tevez affair will be settled before the transfer window closes at midnight on August 31.

FIFA, football´s world governing body, have been asked to break the contractual impasse which has blocked Tevez´s proposed move from West Ham to Old Trafford - and, with the transfer deadline looming, United want the case heard on an "expedited basis".

Gill said: "What you find in these situations is that FIFA and the necessary bodies try to make sure the player can play, whether it´s for Manchester United or for West Ham. I would have thought they will do everything they can to make sure the decision is made within the appropriate period."
