Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has moved a step closer to being appointed Manchester City manager after arriving in the city for talks.

The Swede has been waiting for Thaksin Shinawatra´s takeover of the club to go through before being formally announced as Stuart Pearce´s replacement at Eastlands on a three-year contract.

That development looked even more likely when Eriksson touched down at Manchester Airport and admitted he hoped there would be further developments imminently, and he said: "We will see. I would prefer to speak on Wednesday."
