Prospective new Manchester City manager Claudio Ranieri has quit as Parma boss.

Ranieri earlier confirmed his intention to succeed Stuart Pearce as boss at the Eastlands outfit providing prospective new owner Thaksin Shinawatra pushes through his takeover plans.

And the former Chelsea boss has stood down at Parma having guided the team to Serie A safety this season after taking over in February.
